The AWS causes a stir in Georgia and plans to invest about $ 11 billion in the construction of new data centers.
This initiative announced in the blog post emphasizes the efforts of the technology giant to satisfy the growing demand for cloud computing and technologies AI. The investment is expected to create at least 550 new jobs, although the specific allocation of funds remains unclear.
Roger Wehner, Vice President for AWS economic development, expressed enthusiasm of expansion. He noted that the Georgian business environment allowed investment like this. According to Wehner, the multimillion project not only creates well -paid jobs, but also benefits the state’s economy significantly.
This is not the first major investment of AWS in Georgia. Since 2010, Amazon, the parent company AWS, has invested $ 18.5 billion in the state. The latest act will focus on the Butts and Douglas districts, which signals a significant impulse for the local economy.
Local leaders are enthusiastic. Dr. Romon Jackson Jones, chairman of the Douglas district, called it the “historical day” of the district. It welcomed the advanced cloud computing AWS technology and the promise of hundreds of high-tech jobs that will benefit the community.
In the Butts district, Russ Crumbley, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Commissioners, described the investment as the largest in the history of the district. He appreciated the effort to cooperate between local authorities and organizations that worked with AWS to ensure that the project would help the community to improve infrastructure and strengthen economic growth.
AWS has been preparing its investment for a long time. In October 2024, the company received 118 acres in the Douglas district near Atlanta for $ 37 million. This followed the earlier purchase of 430 acres in Covington, about 40 miles east of Atlanta. Although the AWS has not confirmed whether a data center will be located at Covington, the acquisitions emphasize its growing track in the state.
Formerly in 2024 he launched the AWS cloud local zone in Atlanta, which brings the computing infrastructure to companies that need low latency solutions. Local zones often operate areas without a complete cloud area, improving applications that require almost real time responses.
AWS is not the only technological giant that monitors the potential of Georgia. Microsoft actively builds data centers in the Atlanta area with branches at East Point, Palmetto and Douglasville. Google also has data centers in the state, although it has not arranged a cloud area in Georgia.
Atlanta quickly becomes a hotspot for the development of data centers. Companies such as Stream, Stack, DC Blox and the realty work on big projects. According to the recent JLL report, Atlanta is a leading market for collocation capacity in construction.
As AWS deepens its roots in Georgia, it is clear that the state is established as a center for cloud infrastructure and AI.
